Ben Stokes hilariously refers himself as Bionic man, post goes viral

English Test skipper, Ben Stokes, has referred to himself as a “Bionic Man” after a successful surgery to his left hamstring. He had injured himself during the third and final Test of the New Zealand series, which was also England’s final game of 2024.

Stokes took to social media to provide an update on his surgery via an Instagram post. The photograph, which was captured in the backseat of a car, showcased his left leg secured in a brace with pillows serving as padded support. The last bit of the caption was indicative that he would be back to action in a short while.

Notably, Stokes returned to optimal fitness and resumed his duties as an all-rounder in the three-Test series against New Zealand after being out of the series against Sri Lanka at home and two Tests against Pakistan away. He had to be carried off the field after pulling up sore while representing Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024.

However, the obligations of his workload seemed to have taken a toll on him during the Hamilton Test. He pulled up while into the 13th over of the Black Caps’ second innings and was unable to contribute any further in the match. With the aforementioned setback, Stokes has already been ruled out of England‘s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. No red-ball cricket until May provides a vital opportunity for him to recuperate and regain his form.

I ain’t holding back: Stokes

In a recent conversation, Stokes boldly asserted that he was going to give it his all to make a comeback to the international setup. He seemed quite determined to put in the hard yards. England’s next assignment post the conclusion of the Champions Trophy would be their one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May.

“It’s just one of those unfortunate things. I ain’t holding back. Every time you walk out on the field, you’re at risk of injury. You can’t play for anything in this game. I’m obviously very disappointed, but after every setback, I come back stronger. There’s no doubt I’ll be going away from here, working [hard] as I always do, and getting myself back to where I was in this game,” shared Stokes, while speaking to BBC Sport.
