Manchester City defender Juma Bah is set to join Lyon on a season-long loan.
According to L’Equipe, City agreed to let one of their players join the Ligue 1 outfit for the 2025-26 campaign as part of the €42 million deal for Rayan Cherki.
Lyon initially wanted to bring in Oscar Bobb or Abdukodir Khusanov, but the Premier League giants had no intention to part ways with them.
Paulo Fonseca’s side switched their focus to James McAtee and Claudio Echeverri, but Bah has now emerged as the top contender to join Les Gones this summer.
The 19-year-old swapped Real Valladolid for Man City in January and was immediately sent on loan to RC Lens.
He impressed during his temporary stay at the French club, featuring in 10 league games to help them secure an eighth-place finish.
However, the youngster is not expected to be retained for next season due to the huge competition for places at City.
Lens are keen on another loan for the defender, but it appears Lyon are closing in on a deal for him.
Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol formed an excellent partnership in central defence for Man City towards the final stages of the season, and they are expected to continue as first-choice options next term.
Pep Guardiola’s side brought in Khusanov and Vitor Reis in January, while Nathan Ake, John Stones and Manuel Akanji are also on their books.
Given City are heavily stocked in central defence, it makes sense to send Bah on loan to Lyon, where he can hope to develop his game with first-team football.
