Somerset registered a famous six-wicket win with as many balls to spare to secure the T20 Blast 2025 title over Hampshire in the final of the competition at Edgbaston on Saturday, September 13. With this, Somerset joined Hampshire and Leicestershire as three-time champions of the competition.
Chris Lynn, the hero of the second semi-final, was dismissed on the first ball of the third over. 42 runs were scored off the fifth and sixth overs of the powerplay, taking Hampshire to 83/1 at the end of six overs. Somerset pulled back the momentum quite well by conceding only two boundaries between overs 7 and 11. Skipper James Vince (52 off 34) departed on the final ball of the 12th over.
James Fuller (1 off 3) was dismissed an over later. Toby Albert (85 off 48) fell after playing a vital knock for his side. Lewis Gregory finished off with figures of 1/30 in four overs. A couple of wickets in the final over and only eight runs conceded meant Hampshire finished six runs short of the 200-run mark. Lewis Goldsworthy ended with neat figures of 1/28 in his allotted quota.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore (23 off 14) and Tom Abell (0 off 2) in consecutive overs of the run-chase, as Somerset could only make 55 in the powerplay. By the time the 10th over had concluded, Somerset required 105 off 60 balls, with James Rew (20 off 13) back in the shed too. Will Smeed got to his fifty halfway through the 13th over. Sean Dickson was dropped in the subsequent over.
37 were required off the final three overs. A 19-run over brought the equation down to 18 off 12 balls. Skipper Lewis Gregory finished things off in style, smacking 18 runs in the five balls after Smeed got out for 94 off 58. This was also the largest successful chase in the final of the T20 Blast. Somerset had chased down the target with an over to spare.

“It’s unbelievable. We set ourselves to win the comp and we have done that. We have got matchwinners 1-11 and we have been a consistent side for the last 11 years. 100 per cent, the only focus was on winning the game. I was pretty nervous watching at the end but Lewis smacked it and couldn’t be any happier. The goal was to be at the end but we won the game so can’t blame. It’s about playing with your mates and winning with your mates. Edgbaston is an amazing place to play and it felt like a homeground,” Smeed said at the post-match presentation.
Winning captain, Lewis Gregory, said
“We like to win it the hard way, don’t we! Got off to an amazing powerplay, to drag it back to only chasing 180 [195], the guys did an amazing job. Smeedy [Will Smeed], Dicko [Sean Dickson], was amazing to watch. It’s much nicer to be out there and they did not go too far away from us. It was just one over, and it was back to 10s after that – we knew that. Super chuffed for the lads. We have got matchwinners throughout our squad and on these big occasions, it was about them stepping up. We saw that tonight and we saw that with Dicko in the quarter-final. Much better wicket than this morning and than previous years. It was a brilliant cricket wicket,” Gregory expressed himself.
