Tottenham winger Manor Solomon completes Fiorentina loan move

Tottenham winger Manor Solomon has completed a loan move to Fiorentina.

The 26-year-old Israel international took advantage of a release clause to end a season-long loan at Villarreal, where he has made just 11 appearances in all competitions. The midfielder has initially joined La Viola until the end of the season, with an option to buy for an estimated £9m included in the deal.

Already wearing a Fiorentina top, Solomon touched down in Florence on Friday morning before undertaking a medical. He was accompanied by his wife, Dana Voshina, who is expecting the couple’s first child later this year. Fiorentina subsequently posted pictures of the midfielder undertaking his medical before making an official announcement late on Friday afternoon.

What did Manor Solomon say about joining Fiorentina?

“I’m really happy to be here,” said Solomon. “As soon as I saw the players, I saw the people, I got really excited. When the opportunity came to me, I was thinking about it and straight away I wanted to come here and try to help the team.

“I know it’s a great club. The facilities are amazing, great heritage, great history, and I’m looking forward to this challenge.

“I know the team is in a difficult moment, the club is not used to being where it is now, so I’ll try to bring my quality, I’ll try to help the team. I’m sure that we can do it.

“It’s a great squad, a great manager, and I’m sure we can get the job done and be much better.”  

Where has Manor Solomon played previously?

For Solomon, the move marks the latest chapter in what has become an increasingly nomadic career since he fled Ukraine, where he made 105 appearances across four seasons for Shakhtar Donetsk, after the Russian invasion in February 2022. 

A year-long loan to Fulham began that summer before he joined Tottenham as a free agent 12 months later. By that time, however, a persistent meniscus injury was becoming intolerable. Within three months, Solomon was forced to undergo surgery. 

The road to recovery was both long and painful. Solomon would not kick a ball in anger again until the following season, when he joined second-tier side Leeds United on loan in an attempt to rebuild his fitness, form and confidence. The move proved a spectacular success, with Solomon contributing 10 league goals and a dozen assists as the Yorkshire club won the Championship.

Solomon returned to the Tottenham bench for August’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth, but within days he was on the move again, this time to Villarreal, his fourth club in three years. Now he will seek to put down more lasting roots in Tuscany.

“We can confirm that Manor Solomon has been recalled from his loan at Villarreal and has joined Italian side Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of the season,” Tottenham said in a statement. “He has made six appearances for us to date, and we wish him well during the second half of the campaign with I Viola in Serie A.”

Solomon’s signing will inevitably be regarded as the first of the Fabio Paratici era after the Tottenham co-sporting director was offered a five-year contract to become the club’s head of technical affairs.

Fiorentina are seeking to rebuild the Serie A strugglers from the ground up, with Solomon the first of several new arrivals expected this month.
