Nottingham Forest are closing in to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Luca Netz.
The 22-year-old left-back is undergoing a medical and is expected to complete a permanent move to the City Ground in the coming hours.
Nottingham Forest agree Luca Netz transfer
Forest have reached an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach to sign Luca Netz on a long-term deal.
The Germany youth international is set to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract once his medical is completed.
The fee is understood to be around £2 million, with add-ons and a sell-on clause included.
The left-back was entering the final months of his contract in Germany and could have left on a free in the summer, hence the low fee.
Netz has featured 17 times in all competitions this season for Gladbach, registering two assists.
He joined the Bundesliga side from Hertha Berlin in 2021 and has built a reputation as an energetic, attack-minded full-back.
Why Forest wanted a new left-back
Strengthening at full-back has been a priority for Nottingham Forest throughout the January window.
The club explored several options, including Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas, who is currently on loan at Roma.
Forest also briefly had Oleksandr Zinchenko on loan from Arsenal, but that move was cut short earlier this month, with the Ukrainian joining Ajax after struggling to make an impact.
Zinchenko’s departure has left Forest light on cover. Ola Aina and Neco Williams have been first choice on either flank, but both have been heavily relied upon.
Williams will miss Friday’s key trip to Leeds United through suspension following his red card against Crystal Palace.
There are also concerns over Nicolo Savona, with head coach Sean Dyche awaiting clarity on the injury the summer signing recently picked up.
Luca Netz profile and experience
Netz came through the academy at Hertha Berlin before making the move to Gladbach at 18.
He has represented Germany at multiple youth levels, including the Under-21s, and is viewed as a player with room to develop.
At 22, he fits Forest’s recent recruitment pattern of targeting players who can contribute immediately while still having resale value.
Nottingham Forest deadline day transfer news
Luca Netz would become Forest’s third signing of the window.
Striker Lorenzo Lucca arrived from Napoli on loan earlier this month, while goalkeeper Stefan Ortega joined from Manchester City at the weekend.
Forest are still keen to add another striker and a midfielder before the 7pm deadline, but securing depth at full-back was the urgent priority
Netz’s arrival would address that need and provide Dyche with another option during a demanding run of fixtures.
With the medical underway, Forest now appear confident of getting the deal over the line before the window shuts.
