India lifted the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy for the third time after defeating New Zealand in the final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Following the victory, several celebrations took place at the venue, including light shows and fireworks around the stadium.
During the celebrations, a drone show was held in the sky above the stadium. The display formed a map of India illuminated with lights, with the T20 World Cup trophy shown within the outline of the country. In the map displayed during the drone show, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was depicted as part of India’s territory. The drone show was also broadcast on Pakistan’s television channel PTV Sports, where the visuals were shown to viewers watching the final in Pakistan.
Speaking about the match, India delivered a dominant performance in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Batting first, India posted a massive total of 255/5 in their 20 overs, powered by a series of explosive performances from the top order.
Sanju Samson led the charge with a brilliant knock of 89 off 46 balls, smashing five fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 193.48. Abhishek Sharma also made a huge impact with a rapid 52 off just 21 balls, which included six fours and three sixes at an impressive strike rate of 247.62. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan added further momentum to the innings with an attacking 54 off 25 balls. For New Zealand, James Neesham was the most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 3/46 in his four overs.
Chasing the daunting target of 256, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. Tim Seifert was the top scorer for the Black Caps with an entertaining 52 off 26 balls, including two fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 200. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to build significant partnerships as India’s bowlers maintained constant pressure.
Leading the bowling attack for India was Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a match-winning spell of 4/15. Axar Patel also played a crucial role with the ball, picking up 3/27 in his three overs to dismantle the New Zealand batting order.
