Newcastle fans will be waiting with bated breath after Anthony Gordon suffered an injury in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat against Manchester City.
Eddie Howe’s side were beaten 3-1 on the night at the Etihad and 5-1 on aggregate as last year’s winners crashed out at the semi-final stage.
Omar Marmoush’s early braced effectively ended the tie before the half-hour mark.
And when Tijjani Reijnders added a third just minutes after Marmoush’s second, Newcastle looked woeful.
The Magpies improved after the break, grabbing a consolation goal through Anthony Elgnaga.
But a first-half injury to Anthony Gordon will be a huge concern for Eddie Howe.
Newcastle’s injury problems have decimated his squad throughout the season.
They have struggled for form an consistency, and the cracks are beginning to show.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle future has come under major scrutiny in recent weeks.
But it is hard not to sympathise with the former Bournemouth boss given the number of injuries his side have dealt with.
Anthony Gordon Set For Scan After Latest Injury
England attacker Gordon went down in the first half of Wednesday’s defeat against City.
The 24-year-old was seen holding his hamstring, and was replaced by Harvey Barnes.
Although not as bad as initially feared, Gordon is set for a scan today to confirm the full extent.

He is expected to miss Newcastle’s next few games, against Brentford, Tottenham and the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa.
Gordon will be desperate to return in time for Newcastle’s Champions League play-off round tie against Qarabag.
The first leg of that meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 February, with the return fixture on Tuesday 24 February.
Newcastle Injury Problems Refuse To Ease Up
Gordon’s injury is unfortunately just the latest in a string of issues for Newcastle United.
Both Joelinton (groin) and Bruno Guimaraes (ankle) are also struggling with problems.
The Brazilian pair are not expected to be out for long, but neither is likely to feature this weekend.
As for Gordon, this is another setback in a disrupted campaign.
️ “It’s a Hamstring problem, I don’t know how bad it is, but it was enough for him to come off.”

He has already missed two games earlier this season with a hip problem.
And Gordon was also suspended for three Premier League games after being sent off against Liverpool.
Upon going down injured against City, Gordon appeared to say “hamstring” to England team-mate Phil Foden, after the Man City star went over to console him.
Speaking after the game, Eddie Howe confirmed the injury to Gordon.
He said: “It looks like a hamstring injury, it was enough for him to come off so that is a big worry.”
Newcastle’s game against Brentford kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday at St. James’ Park.
