Bernardo Silva Injury News: Man City Star Big Doubt For Liverpool

Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva could miss this weekend’s trip to Liverpool through injury, having already sat out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final win.

Silva was sidelined for the first time this season as City beat Newcastle 3-1 at the Etihad to secure a 5-1 aggregate victory.

That win saw them through to the final where they will face Arsenal, who overcame Chelsea in the other semi.

But having been a mainstay throughout this season, Silva picked up an injury last weekend against Tottenham.

The 31-year-old was taken off in the closing stages against Spurs in some discomfort.

And while not thought to be serious, the problem could keep him out of this weekend’s fixture.

Manchester City’s injuries have been piling up this season, so losing Silva for the weekend would be another blow.

Pep Guardiola Admits Bernardo Silva Injury Concern

Silva has not yet been formally ruled out of the trip to Anfield, but early signs aren’t good.

Speaking after the midweek win against Newcastle, manager Pep Guardiola admitted Silva’s chances of playing were slim.

“Could be okay are not the words,” said the Spaniard.

“He is an incredible doubt. He will try, I know him, he will try but he is an incredible doubt.

“We’ll see. Yesterday he said to me, I don’t feel quite good, I want to try. It’s a position that is less dangerous than a hamstring, it’s another type of muscle, but we’ll see.”

That news will be a body blow to City’s preparations this weekend.

Despite Liverpool’s struggles this season, Anfield remains one of the toughest places in the Premier League to visit.

City have won just once there under Pep Guardiola, and not for five years.

And having won just once in their last six Premier League games, they travel the the champions in underwhelming form.

But despite a daunting fixture ahead, and the probable absence of their captain, City have room for optimism.

Wednesday’s performance was professional and comprehensive, despite numerous injuries.

Nico Gonzalez and Rodri worked well in midfield and controlled proceedings against Newcastle.

And Tijjani Reijnders looked at his absolute best in a brilliant display.

Omar Marmoush impressed again to grab a brace, while Antoine Semenyo’s arrival at City has been seamless.

And with players like Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias and Rayan Cherki to come back into the starting lineup, City’s depth is frightening.

Liverpool will pose a tough challenge, but it is one City will feel capable of meeting this weekend.
