Charles Oliveira’s legendary UFC career may be coming to a close.
The fan favorite and former Lightweight champion will return this weekend (Sat., Oct. 11, 2025) as the main event of UFC Rio versus Mateusz Gamrot in a highly relevant 155-pound bout. A win confirms Oliveira is still a player in the division and Top Five-ranked contender. However, in a recent interview with SHAK MMA, “Do Bronx” was asked about his fighting future and revealed that he may not be sticking around for much longer.
In fact, we may only see Oliveira for two more bouts. Per the Brazilian, a victory on Saturday night would help line him up for a BMF title fight versus Max Holloway, whom Oliveira faced way back in 2015. Oliveira wants to capture one more title before retiring, which could mean that a “Blessed” booking could be his final appearance.
“The first is winning this fight and fighting for a title, whether it’s a BMF or a title in the division,” Oliveira explained through a translator (via Essentially Sports). “… This is a great fight that will propel me towards a title. I think a lot of people, everyone, would love to see this fight [versus Max Holloway]. I want this to be my last fight.”
On one hand, it’s fairly surprising that the highly-regarded Oliveira is considering retirement, an idea he’s denied in other interviews. At the same time, the Brazilian does hold numerous records for longevity. He’s been on the UFC roster since 2010, so even if “Do Bronx” is only 35 years old, he’s been through a lot of wars and has suffered plenty of wear and tear.
As with all MMA retirements (potential or otherwise), the situation should be considered fluid and dependent on how his next fight shakes out. For fight fans, the best solution is to appreciate every Oliveira fight as it’s happening, because we may not be treated to many more appearances from the all-time great action fighter.
