Cameron Green will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Australian all-rounder has been traded for Mumbai Indians (MI) in a move that was done to make way for the return of Hardik Pandya.

Green had a terrific debut season in the IPL. He smashed 452 runs at an average of 50.22 and strike rate of 160.28, and also took six wickets. He batted up the order for the most part, with his 100* off 47 balls in the final league game taking MI to the playoffs. “Thank you, Greeny for a wonderful season in MI Blue & Gold,” tweeted the Mumbai Indians.

So, what will RCB get with Cameron Green in IPL 2024? Bangalore already does have a relatively settled top four with Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell, so Green is set to be an important middle order player.

Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at RCB, said “we’ve got a really strong top order, and we wanted to enhance the middle order by adding a little bit of power. That was always going to be a bit of a priority for us. Preferably, if that power was a pace-bowling all-rounder, that would be ideal.

“Someone like Cameron Green was the perfect fit for us.”

Arguments for the trade

Those in favour of the move not only look at how dangerous RCB’s batting lineup will be for 2024, but also how valuable Green could be in the longer term. Faf du Plessis is 39, and Green could become a regular top order player for RCB down the line.

After all my research & analysis I can confirm Cameron Green is a profitable trade.

We all need to trust RCB management on this one. It’s an investment for the future considering Faf is already 39, He might play one more season while Green is just 24 and will only grow from now.

Arguments against the trade

Those against the trade believe Green is overpriced at 17 crore. Also, the resources RCB currently have may mean the franchise will find it tricky to fit him in the playing XI? Also, how will the RCB bowling attack look for the season? After all, it’s the bowling where RCB have struggled most over the years.

My final opinion on Cameron Green:

1) A top order player when we already have top 4 of Faf, Virat, Rajat, Maxwell

2) He isn’t even at Australian’s T20 plans, not selected in Aus B team currently touring India

3) We already have explosive young T20 batter in the form of Jacks
