Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Kiran More has emerged as the frontrunner to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sources confirmed that the BCCI top brass has approached a few high-profile ex-cricketers from the West Zone, including a former player from Saurashtra. However, More appears to be the unanimous choice of the state associations.
This development follows the resignation of Roger Binny, who stepped down on July 19 after turning 70, the age limit for office-bearers within the board. Since then, vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been overseeing operations at the top.
Meanwhile, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal revealed that the BCCI elections, originally scheduled for September 28, are unlikely to be held this year. Instead, if consensus is reached, a candidate may be appointed unopposed without the need for a formal election.
“It is going to be a unanimous decision. Mostly all of the state associations are on the same page with the BCCI’s eagerness to have Kiran More at the helm. We will get to know about the final decision shortly,” sources told NDTV.
More was born in 1962, represented India between 1984 and 1993, featuring in 49 Tests and 94 ODIs. He was a member of India’s Asia Cup-winning squads in 1988 and 1991. Beyond his playing career, More has held several key roles in cricket administration and coaching.
He previously served as Chairman of Selectors at the BCCI, and also worked as a wicketkeeping consultant with Mumbai Indians in the IPL. In 2019, he was appointed Director of Cricket and interim coach of USA Cricket, where he played a pivotal role in restructuring their pathways after the team earned ODI status. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Baroda Cricket Association.
If More assumes the presidency, it would mark the return of a former player to the BCCI’s top post, signaling the board’s intent to bring more cricketing experience into its leadership. With India set to host several major global tournaments in the coming years, including the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, his appointment could prove significant at a crucial juncture for Indian cricket.
