Liverpool have submitted a huge £109 million offer to sign Bayern Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
According to The Athletic, this is the Reds’ second bid for the 22-year-old playmaker.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in Wirtz, but Liverpool are thought to be leading the transfer race for him.
The German midfielder is said to be keen on a move to Anfield, but Real Madrid still believe they have a chance to secure his services this summer.
The Spanish giants reportedly plan to use manager Xabi Alonso to convince their former player to join them.
Wirtz has emerged as one of the best players in Europe in recent years. He played a pivotal role in helping Leverkusen complete a domestic double in 2023-24, scoring 18 goals and providing 20 assists in 49 appearances.
The attacking midfielder also contributed 16 goals and 15 assists last season, but the Black and Reds failed to keep with Bayern in the title race and finished 13 points behind.
The Germany international’s current contract will expire in 2027, having penned his previous deal in 2022.
It is said the Bundesliga club want a whopping £126m for their prized asset, but Liverpool may not meet their enormous valuation, with their current transfer record standing at £84m paid to land Darwin Nunez.
The Reds endured an underwhelming summer transfer window, but they still claimed the Premier League title with four games to spare.
Arne Slot’s side are refusing to rest on their laurels and have been very active in the transfer market so far.
They are vigorously pursuing a deal for Wirtz, while Jeremie Frimpong is another player from Leverkusen who is set to join the English champions.
