Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has delivered some worrying injury news on three players ahead of Monday night’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth.
The Red Devils will be without both Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt after Amorim confirmed their unavailability.
And striker Benjamin Sesko has suffered a set-back after recovering from a knee injury.
The Slovenian international has been struck down with food poisoning this week, which could rule him out of Monday’s game at Old Trafford.
Earlier this week, United climbed to sixth in the Premier League table with a 4-1 win at bottom side Wolves.
They sit just one point below fourth-placed Crystal Palace, and are firmly in the fight for Champions League football.
But they will have to take on the Cherries with at least two big names missing from the team sheet.
The lack of options at the back for Amorim has led to some reports linking Sergio Ramos to Manchester United, with the World Cup winner touted as a short-term option.
It’s therefore essential for United to get their defence back to fitness, especially as the festive fixtures pile up.
Ruben Amorim Provides Manchester United Injury News
Speaking during his press conference ahead of the weekend, Amorim confirmed the situation.
“Maguire is out. De Ligt is out. Ben [Sesko], we have to see if he is available,” he said.
“He had some food poisoning, we have two trainings still.”

Amorim went on to explain Dutch international De Ligt has been struggling with a back problem.
“I think he has something in his back. I don’t know for sure.
“He finished the game against Crystal Palace, but sometimes he feels pain, and we have to be careful with that,” said the Portuguese coach.
As for Harry Maguire, the England defender has been missing since November’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham.
He will be sidelined for a fifth straight Premier League match due to a thigh issue.
But United hope the former Leicester City man will make a return before the new year.
Benjamin Sesko Illness Could Keep Striker Out
It’s been a frustrating period for Benjamin Sesko since arriving at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old arrived from German club RB Leipzig in the summer for £74 million.
But he has struggled for form and fitness, scoring just two goals in 12 appearances.
A knee injury picked up against Spurs has kept him out of recent fixtures.
And just as he was set to make a comeback, he has been dealt another blow.
Although not ruled out for definite, Ruben Amorim may choose to keep Sesko out of the team until next Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.
With most strikers needing a run of games to develop sharpness and match fitness, that is far from ideal.
Bournemouth may be too soon for Sesko, but both he and Amorim will be hoping he can soon put together a strong run of games.
United’s game against the Cherries kicks off at 20:00 on Monday night at old Trafford.
