Who won Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd ODI today?
South Africa levelled three-match ODI series by winning the second encounter by eight wickets and 59 balls to spare at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Thursday, November 6.
Nandre Burger struck thrice within the powerplay to reduce the hosts to 41/3 as the Proteas had to bowl first in a do-or-die encounter. A sharp return catch by Corbin Bosch brought the end of Saim Ayub for a 53-run knock. Another caught-and-bowled opportunity, this time by Nqabayomzi Peter, left Pakistan five down at the end of 30 overs.
Salman Agha was dismissed in his 60s in his second consecutive ODI innings. The hosts were in danger of getting bowled out at a score southwards to 250. A 22-run final over off the bowling of Peter meant they ended on 269/9 in their allotted quota. Nandre Burger finished with four wickets to his name, while Mohammad Nawaz scored a run-a-ball 59.
The Proteas made a confident start to their run-chase. 45 of the 65 runs in the first 10 overs were scored by Lhuan-dre Pretorius. Mohammad Wasim dismissed Pretorius four runs short of his second half-century in consecutive innings. However, Quinton de Kock did not miss out. He got to his fifty with the third six of his innings. Mohammad Nawaz was taken apart for 17 runs in his first over.
Tony de Zorzi got in on the act to three boundaries in Mohammad Wasim’s over to bring up his own fifty. De Kock brought up his 22nd ODI ton with a double on the third ball of the 31st over. De Zorzi was in for a hundred of his own. However, a leading edge off Faheem Ashraf meant he had to walk back for a brisk 76 off 63. His senior partner, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 123 off 119.
Top batting performance of the match — Quinton de Kock
De Kock’s 123-run knock entailed eight fours and seven sixes. His running between the wickets was splendid, too. The left-handed batter’s most productive shot was the pull shot, through which he claimed 34 runs.
Top bowling performance of the match — Nandre Burger
Burger rattled the Men in Green’s top order with three quick wickets. He bowled with excellent control with the new ball. The left-arm pacer picked up his fourth wicket on the penultimate ball of his spell to finish with noteworthy figures.

De Kock deservedly secured the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten innings. Coming back from retirement from the tour, the southpaw looked in fine nick. None of the Pakistani bowlers could cause any trouble to him with the manner in which he batted in the middle.
