Thomas Frank Responds to “Sacked in the Morning” Chants

Angry Tottenham Hotspur fans vocally targeted Thomas Frank following Saturday’s 2-1 London derby defeat at home to West Ham.

“You’re getting sacked in the morning,” was the chant bellowed out by thousands from the home section of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Frank’s Spurs failed to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Frank and his team were also booed loudly as the atmosphere in N17 turned toxic after another woeful result.

West Ham had gone 10 Premier League games without winning prior to Saturday’s visit to ‘Doctor Tottenham’ — a nickname that has emerged this season due to multiple teams managing to bust poor runs of form against Spurs.

For context, Bournemouth were winless in 11 games before beating Tottenham 3-2 earlier this month. That came shortly after Fulham ended a seven-game run without an away win by beating Spurs in north London.

Frank was asked about the “sacked in the morning” chants in his post-game press conference on Saturday.

He replied: “I’ve probably had better times. I understand, I’m the man in charge. As long as they back the players to drive them forward… and we will keep going forward.”

The former Brentford boss also defended his players, claiming that they were trying their best and that they came “close to something very good” against West Ham.

Frank added: “When we start winning again, it will change. If the players stopped working hard then you can say ‘okay’. But the team are working very hard. We were close to something very good. We could’ve easily won this one 2-1. I can feel the trust from everyone.”

When asked if he had a message for the Spurs fans, Frank said: “It is the perfect storm at the moment. A last-minute defeat and you get a sucker punch. It is unbelievably tough to take. And football is emotional. There’s only one way, to keep going forward.”

In addition to the chants inside the stadium, countless Spurs fans took to social media to call for Frank to leave the club in the wake of Saturday’s defeat by the Hammers.

Alongside the hashtag “#FrankOut”, one disgruntled fan tweeted: “Getting completely outplayed by one of the worst teams in the league. Enough is enough.”

Meanwhile, fan account The Spurs Express wrote: “Thomas Frank is the opposite of what a Tottenham manager is meant to be, and is one of the worst managers we’ve had. The fact that the board see him as worth backing shows how out of touch with the club they all are. Sack them all.”

Frank also faced calls for his head 10 days earlier following a 3-2 loss at Bournemouth. But it was not only the result and performance that angered Spurs fans on that occasion. Many were also furious that Frank was pictured before kick-off drinking from a paper cup emblazoned with the Arsenal logo.

Frank is under serious pressure and is currently the leading candidate to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Should he be sacked in the morning, then Frank would be the third Premier League boss to be dismissed in January 2026, after Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim were sacked by Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Amorim was sacked after recording the lowest win rate of any permanent Man United manager since 1972. He won just 38.10% of his 63 games in charge of the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Maresca’s Chelsea record was significantly better. He won 59.78% of his 92 games as Blues boss, and also delivered two major trophies.

In comparison, Frank’s current win percentage with Tottenham is just 34.38%, having won 11 of his first 32 games, losing 12 and drawing nine.
