Ace Indian batter, Ajinkya Rahane, showed sublime batting form for Leicestershire in the County Championship. Having ended his One-Day Cup campaign with 378 runs under his belt in 10 innings, there couldn’t have been a better manner in which Rahane could’ve triggered his run-fest in Division Two of the Championship by amassing his first ton in the competition against Glamorgan.
Trailing by 299 runs, Leicestershire were seeming quite comfortable but two quick wickets saw them getting reduced to 37/2, which had Rahane arrive at the crease. Rahane added 37 runs with Ian Holland, before combining with Handscomb to share a 183-run stand with him, pushing his side to a position of relative control.
It was a dashing cut off a Mason Crane delivery to the vacant deep point delivery which brought up Rahane’s second century in the County Championship, and his first with Leicestershire. He could be seen basking in the moment with his trademark celebration and thanking Handscomb for his congratulatory remarks. This meant that the star batter has put forward his strong contention for a comeback into the Indian Test side for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, which will be played in Australia, later this year.

Rahane’s valiant effort with Handscomb helps Leicestershire to draw the game
Meanwhile, speaking of the game, after electing to field first, it was Leicestershire who were put into bat first. Leicestershire’s first innings was rather limited in duration, as they were bundled out for 251 within 69 overs. Notably, Ajinkya Rahane was the second-leading run-getter for Leicestershire, just behind Peter Handscomb.
In response, Glamorgan hoarded a colossal 550 in their first essay, with 257 of them coming off the bat of Colin Ingram. Rahane was dismissed soon after he notched up his ton with him being caught behind for a score of 102 (192). Nevertheless, it was an elegant knock from the seasoned veteran. The match ended in a draw with Handscomb ending up on unbeaten on a superbly-crafted 139-run knock.
