Ajit Agarkar, the Chairman of the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee, has arrived at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Headquarters in Mumbai ahead of the Indian squad announcement for the England tour on Saturday, May 24.
Notably, the Indian men’s team will travel to England in June for a five-match Test series, beginning with the first Test at the Headingley, Leeds. The BCCI also confirmed the media that they will be announcing the squad on Saturday at 1.30 PM (Indian Standard Time), and ahead of the same, chief selector Agarkar has reached the venue from where he will also be addressing a press conference alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir.

This tour will also mark the commencement of a fresh World Test Championship cycle for the Indian team after they missed out on making it to their third-consecutive final appearance following a shambolic Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss Down Under. Moreover, India have lost the experienced trio in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin, and would be having a relatively younger side taking up key roles, including that of captaincy.
Multiple reports have hinted at Shubman Gill being appointed as the new Test captain, and whether that happens will be confirmed shortly. The other names in contention to lead the team are KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and even Ravindra Jadeja – not particularly in that order. Names like Karun Nair and B Sai Sudharsan are also likely to be included in the side.
