Teams Australia Women and Sri Lanka Women clashed in Match 5 of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. During the thrilling encounter, fans witnessed a brilliant piece of work on the field via the latter’s Kavisha Dilhari.
Stationed at cover, she ran to her right after Beth Mooney tapped it on the off-side for a quick single. The batting all-rounder was quick to start off to her right and ended up pulling off a stunning run-out to dismiss Georgia Wareham with a direct hit. In all honesty, it was partly Wareham’s doing as she didn’t seem to have taken a start at the non-striker’s end.
However, Dilhari’s athleticism was worth appreciating as she sprawled across to cleanly collect and release the ball in a jiffy. Kavisha Dilhari‘s poor form with the bat continued as she was trapped plumb in front by Sophie Molineux in the first innings of the game. The 23-year-old could only manage to score a paltry five runs, which did not trouble the scorers much.

Australia Women started T20 World Cup with a win
As for what went on during the game, Australia Women had no difficulties in chasing down the 94-run target set by Sri Lanka Women. Other than Dilhari, no other Sri Lankan bowler kept the Aussies from scoring at less than a run-a-ball. Earlier in the game, the Lankan batters struggled to get a move on, best characterized by Nilakshika Silva’s innings which did not comprise a single boundary in the 40 deliveries she faced. On opting to bat first, things couldn’t have gone worse for the Lankans as none of the openers seemed comfortable in the middle, with Vishmi Gunaratne going back to the dugout for a 10-ball duck.
