Punjab Kings have been enjoying their best IPL seasons yet in the 2025 edition. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has not only qualified for the Playoffs, but ensured a top-two finish, which gives them an added advantage in the business end of the marquee tournament. Their head coach Ricky Ponting has shared his raw thoughts on the incredible season PBKS have had this year, guided by a complete team performance.
As they are currently leading the Points Table with nine wins and four losses to end their league stage campaign, Ponting has said that even though it is a moment of celebration for them, it is not an achievement yet. The statement made by the former Australia captain hints at one thing – winning the elusive silverware, also something that PBKS have been eyeing for the last seventeen years.
“I think it’s pretty obvious that this is a really talented team, and they are all on the same page and heading in the same direction. It’s a great achievement till now, but really, if you look back, we haven’t achieved anything yet. That’s the one thing I’ve been saying to the players since the moment we qualified,” the 50-year-old said during the post-match press conference following the MI clash, as quoted by The Daily Star.
“The vision for me was always to finish in the top two, and we’ve got there now. It’s a really happy group, and we’ve enjoyed our time in each other’s company for the last 10 weeks, but we’ve got another week to go yet,” the three-time World Cup-winner added.
The dressing room has been top-notch, which has worked for us tremendously: Iyer
One of the biggest stars for PBKS this season was their skipper and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who not only has shown great leadership skills but has also been their leading run scorer for the team as well. The PBKS captain has openly praised the atmosphere within the dressing room, which, according to him, has been ‘top-notch’ this year.
“I personally feel we need to maintain that relationship throughout, irrespective of what the situation is. When you are down in the dumps, it is easy to backstab each other and talk bad about each other. I feel the dressing room has been top-notch right from game one, and that has been working tremendously for us,” the skipper conveyed.
