Nandani Sharma etched her name in the history books with a stunning performance in the ongoing Women’s Premier League, as she became the first-ever Indian pacer to register a hat-trick in the tournament’s history.
The 24-year-old achieved the milestone in Delhi Capitals; clash against Gujarat Giants at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday. She delivered a game-changing spell, finishing with impressive figures of 5 for just 33 in her four overs.
With this memorable spell, she joined an exclusive group of players, including Issy Wong(Mumbai Indians), Deepti Sharma(UP Warriorz), and Grace Harris(UP Warriorz), who have recorded a hat-trick in the WPL previously.
Nandini dismissed Kanika Ahuja, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Renuka Singh in the 20th over of Gujarat’s innings. What made her feat even more special is that it came in a high-scoring thriller.
A native of Chandigarh, Nandani has steadily risen through the ranks of domestic cricket with some strong performances, especially in T20 cricket. Her skills caught the eyes of the franchises and she was acquired by Delhi Capitals for INR 20 lakh in the WPL 2026 auction.
‘I was just focused on bowling at my target’ – Nandini reflects on hat-trick
Reflecting on her unique achievement, Nandini thanked her captain, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Varma for their inputs during pressure situations.
“I was just focused on bowling at my target. Shafali and Jemimah were talking to me before every ball, and the plan was simple—to attack the stumps. I didn’t expect a hat-trick, but the team kept telling me that wickets would come,” Nandani said.
She also mentioned that the decision to adjust her line and length after her first over proved correct as she went on to claim a five-wicket haul. The pacer also expressed gratitude to her well-wishers.
“After my first over, I realised the batters were picking my stock ball well, so I decided to use my variations, and thankfully it worked. My brother, mother and a close friend are here at the ground, while the rest of my family is watching from home. They have all been incredibly supportive,” she added.
Despite Nandini’s heroics, the Capitals were defeated in a nail-biting thriller. Sophie Devine was named Player of the Match for her all-round brilliance, scoring 95 off 42 balls, while successfully defending seven runs in the last over.
