October 2025 to October 2026 has proven to be a dream 12 months for Matt Renshaw. After finding himself in the wilderness, he is now featuring for Australia across three formats.
Not only is he featuring, but he is performing superbly. He has matured a great deal especially since becoming a father, and is enjoying an excellent run in all forms of cricket.
Timeline: Matt Renshaw’s rise in the last 12 months
Here is a look at Renshaw’s excellent 12 months, dating back to October 4, 2025.
Strong start to the 2025/26 Sheffield Shield: 128 against Tasmania, October 2025
With an opening spot up for grabs ahead of the 2025/26 Ashes, Renshaw made a strong start to the Sheffield Shield season with 128 off 235 balls against Tasmania at Allan Border Field. He hit 15 fours and a six, combining with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne for partnerships of 137 and 141 respectively.
Strong Shield performance at the WACA: 101 and 51 against Western Australia, November 2025
It wasn’t long before Renshaw’s next century. Batting on a green pitch at the WACA, Renshaw showed excellent temperament in his 198-ball 101 to set up Queensland’s first innings total of 390. He followed it up with 51 off 73 balls in the second innings.
A third Shield ton before December: 112 against Victoria, November 2025
Renshaw struck his third Shield ton in five innings. He dug in against a Victorian team that eventually went on to reach the final, batting 192 balls for 112 at the Gabba. His strike rotation was a feature of this innings, hitting just 40 runs in boundaries.
Record BBL chase: 102 (51) against Perth Scorchers, December 2025
Change of format, more incredible impact. Brisbane Heat pulled off a record chase in the Big Bash League (BBL), mowing down Perth Scorchers’ 257 with a ball to spare at the Gabba.
Renshaw was at the heart of it all, smashing 102 at a strike rate of 200 to give his team a shot at an incredible victory. He won player of the match for his knock.
65 (44) against Zimbabwe, 2026 T20 World Cup
Renshaw finished the BBL season with 324 runs at an average of 36 and strike rate of 153.55. He was rewarded with a spot in Australia’s T20I squad, and he played a lone hand in Australia’s disappointing loss to Zimbabwe in their T20 World Cup encounter in Colombo.
After Australia fell to 29/4 chasing 170, Renshaw rotated strike expertly against the spinners to lead the recovery effort. However, there was a lack of support from the other end, with the left-hander’s 44-ball 65 more than double the next-best score (Glenn Maxwell’s 31).
89 (52) and 1/13 in 2nd T20I against Bangladesh, June 2026
Renshaw starred with an unbeaten 89 and 1/13 off two overs in Australia’s T20I series-clinching win against Bangladesh in June. After a shaky start where Australia lost three wickets in the powerplay, Renshaw combined with Tim David (45) for a 97-run stand.
The 30-year-old batted through and finished with a strike rate of 171.15 in Australia’s score of 196/5 at Chattogram. The visitors won by seven runs.
Maiden ODI hundred: 109 against Zimbabwe, September 2026
After a difficult ODI series in Bangladesh, Renshaw found his groove in Zimbabwe. With Australia under pressure at 107/4 in the 18th over, Renshaw played a superb hand, hitting 109 off 94 balls to lead Australia to 294/8.
Like the case against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup, his ability to rotate strike against the spinners was the highlight. It ensured Australia had wickets in hand to push for a total around 300, which ended up being a winning score in Harare.
First Test hundred in nearly a decade: 190 against South Africa, October 2026
Nine years and 280 days since his maiden Test ton, Renshaw scored a memorable hundred in the series opener against WTC champions South Africa in Durban. With Australia in all sorts of trouble at 84/4 and 124/6, the 30-year-old knuckled down and produced a superb innings under pressure.
The hallmark of Renshaw’s innings was his temperament. He left the ball well, took advantage when the bowlers erred too straight, and showed conviction in both attack and defence against spin.
From a position of weakness, Renshaw’s fighting innings of 190 off 397 balls took Australia to 390.
